previous test-posts in recent days in my new account [atm still under evaluation] in this new instance, apparently failed to transmit, as i never received them in my other accounts. will this now work?

@Lyn heehee, g'day Lyn! no, you're not butting in at all, indeed your reply has provided me with a much-appreciated "proof-of-life", when my prior tests of recent days had been leaving me most unsure if this new account of mine was fully functional. so, a tentative yippee, maybe? 😆
yes, though i would have preferred not to bug peeps by publicly posting my early experiments, after my attempted private test-post did not make it to my recipient t'other day, in desperation i reverted to public posts to see if that made an improvement.

Thanks I will look into the emoji thing, but it may have to wait until tomorrow. I have already used up my one-new-thing-a-day quota on finding out about elephant shrews - I accidental moved my mouse over your name and saw your list of tags and while checking the (quite a few) things we have in common I idly wondered "what is Sengi?" and like magic I was down a wikipedia rabbit hole.
Apart from the fact I'm more Cinnamon than KDE the only fault I can find in your list is the absence of TerryPratchett! Greatest writer in the English language, apart from Douglas A and Will S of course.
I tried to follow you from my mastodon account but the response message said you were now following me. Meanwhile I'll keep experimenting too. Friendica doesn't seem quite as intuitive as Masto or Pixelfed but I suppose it has more features to get to grips with.
My little OCD brain is now at the point of taking screen shots and writing notes so this non-project will soon be "bigger than Ben Hur". (Not sure if your old enough for that expression, it was a big movie in 1959). I have about six firefox tabs and several other windows open and my desktop is starting to look like a linux web-dev's lab.

@Lyn oh look, i simply have to plead guilty as charged re TerryPratchett -- i cannot explain it but somehow he remains a criminally-negligent omission in my cultural awareness, which ofc is just shameful of me. trouble is my reading list is huge & at the current rate of progress i don't reckon i'll get around to him til next lifetime, alas!
cinnamon is ofc very nice, but yes i do prefer kdeplasma.
sengi is an interesting Masto front-end, & if you're interested, another nice one worth checking out is statuzer.
though i still have my masto & sharkey accounts, i rarely use them these days, being pretty captivated by friendica, for which i've tried several instances over recent years. if it's any consolation for you, fwiw, i found friendica's UI & functions quite overwhelming at first, & it took me at least a few months to get comfy with it, & now i do really like it. but i have tried some unreliable friendica instances in the past, & some that somehow don't seem to work well. my current default, opensocial.space, works on the whole very well [i saw you Followed me there a couple of hours ago].
i still hope though that this new Oz one will get its early bugs ironed out, as i do like the idea of one not based in the northern hemisphere. that said, for the time being, i have deliberately not yet taken the time to fill out all my profile info here... but later, if i do decide to make it my new daily, i shall be copying all my profile info from opensocial.space to here.
fwiw, ben hur was made in the year i was born, so i certainly have later on become well used to that figure of speech.

Mmmm, when I joined Friendica.world (Netherlands) last year they had a latency issue like that. Maybe it is more about friendica software itself rather than an instance thing.
I don't know if they fixed it or not as I was just starting to get the hang of it when I had some dental surgery and my brain went into a 'mental meltdown' for a few months so I wasn't doing much of anything for a while. (the whole move the family off MMDs was supposed to be last year's resolution).
I only decided to look at it again when I saw Shlee's message about the new Friendica.au instance. I agree that we need to be moving ourselves to more local servers, given the state of the world at the moment. (Who knows what the tangerine-clown will do next).
You are right about reading... so many books so little time... but Pratchett is worth the effort if you can squeeze some in. I'd recommend starting a few book in rather than the very beginning he definitely got better as he went along. Just be ready to get totally hooked once you start.
I really should learn to speak better emoji. I have an extra 9 years on you (but I think of myself as Mid-century Modern rather than old 👵).
It's been fun chatting but I now have to go and be a 'domestic-goddess' and order some pizza so my long-suffering husband doesn't starve.

hello Marek, thank you for & congratulations on your new instance. i joined today to evaluate it, in hope that it might prove a good candidate to become my new daily friendica instance. i've tried many over recent years, but most have been in the northern hemisphere & subject to various difficulties, & til now i'd not been able to find an open-registration Oz one.
may i pls trouble you with some questions, to help me decide?
1. i've logged in with the auto-generated password your server assigned me when my registration was accepted. so far, over a period of several hours, every attempt i've made in Settings to change it to a more complex password [within the 72-char limit], has failed, so atm i still only have the initial one. is there any problem atm with the server not accepting new passwords?
2. atm your server has minimal friendica AddOns installed. would you be interested / agreeable pls to also add some other AOs that my existing friendica instances use, for example?
3. the admins at my existing friendica instances were kind enough to add some extra custom emojis for me, which provided most of the #FOSSemojis i commonly use. is that something you might be willing/able to also do pls? eg:

sorry for possibly seeming a bit OTT when only brand new here. i hope i've not offended.

As for the failed password change and unsent messages, I am not aware of any issues nor have I encountered any of these myself. Will look into it. Is anyone else experiencing these problems?

ps: dunno if this helps with the diagnostics or not, but so far when i write posts, other than for your address, any address i begin typing is NOT recognised & auto-completed, nor pops-up a list for me to choose... instead i have to fully type in each address each time {eg, Lyn's, above}. that's not how it works on my other Friendicas, or indeed my Masto or Sharkey accounts... fwiw.

NB: some insight into why i initially thought my OP had failed to get outside... it was not received in my other accounts til ~30' after i had sent it. that's a helluva lotta lag, which if unable to be reduced will drastically impinge on the ability to participate in rapid-fire synchronous thread convos, as often happens in my other accounts. 🥺

It seems that mentioning someone in a private message does not work, but sending a direct message using the Messages menu (or the "Message" button on the contact page) does. Can you confirm that?

then not only did it not work for me here, but iirc it rarely or maybe even never worked for me in any of my other friendicas, both still-active ones, & older ones now deleted. tbh i always found it so unreliable as to not really bothering any more with it... maybe it's a general friendica code bug?

if you don't mind, i'd like to now mention an additional issue that troubles me with my new account here. i prolly would have raised this with you another day anyway, except i now wonder if it might also be another part of a larger problem with the server?
the same day i created this account i tediously manually Followed all the numerous hashtags i follow [~100] & then created my custom Channels for those tags. for reasons i still don't yet understand, in this account those tags searches [& thus also the Channels] often fetch nothing, or otherwise much less than my identically-setup current daily friendica, @Droppie [opensoc] . this disappointment might be entirely unrelated, but i thought to mention it here just in case it might be another facet of some broader issue with your server's current networking / fediversing...?
