Sorry for the timeouts β we're literally killing ourselves keeping this running on volunteer power. Just a heads up though: following tons of hashtags needs serious server muscle. If friendica.au is also small, you might hit the same limits there. It's not you, it's just resource-heavy for indie instances. No hard feelings if you need to switch, but wanted to set expectations realistically!
previously i had no idea at all of this reality, & it immediately made me feel bad in that all this time i had been inadvertently causing problems for admins on various Friendica instances i had used, which ofc is the last thing i would want.
i know nothing at all about the "behind-the-curtain" magic that goes on in server databases & code, but merely from a few years of ignorant end-user UX i've learned that Masto & Sharkey somehow seem to accommodate my large hashtag-following with less latency / reliability problems than on Friendica. now that Raroun has informed me of the serious HW implications of me following large numbers of hashtags in my Friendica accounts, in all good conscience i don't see how i could morally continue my Friendica accounts, knowing i'm causing him & you etc undue problems.
so what began with my earlier enquiry to you about my present FriendicaAU "tags searches [& thus also the Channels] often fetch nothing, or otherwise much less than my identically-setup current daily friendica" friendica.opensocial.space problem, soon became a realisation that unless an instance has "serious server muscle", such an outcome is unavoidable. my assumption here is that as a brand new instance your current HW specs might not be "serious server muscle", which if so my ongoing account might just frustrate both of us, with my tag searches/following yielding little or nothing, but the effort of which causing you much grief in server operation.
i'd really appreciate your thoughts here on what i've written. for my part, i shan't do anything else tonight, & will just sleep on it, but tomorrow i might need to abandon my new account, indeed maybe all my Friendica accounts, unless somehow i've badly misunderstood the situation.

@Droppie Absolutely no need to feel bad. Sharkey had a similiar thing with antennas way back. And Friendica is just not very optimzed when it comes to filters like hashtags.
friendica.au is a very young instance with only a small number of users. I can see my followed hashtags building up slowly but it'll take some more time and interaction. The older and larger an instance is, the more connected it becomes and the more hashtags it will be able to pull (at least that's my understanding). Server resources need to be optimised along the way.

@Marek 🇦🇺🇩🇪 aha! that's good & bad news. sorry to say, but also more bad news... just like prior days, the above latest test-post has NOT reached either of my other Friendicas, which accounts i had "CC'd" above. obvs this is a bad situation. i think atm i cannot really proceed with more setting up this account, til you've had a chance to sniff about on your server in hope of finding the blockage. we do know that outbound posts are succeeding within your server (eg, you're getting mine & i'm getting yours, plus unexpectedly this morn another peep on your server, @Lyn, replied that she could see my test-post}, but mine at least have a 100% failure rate getting to the outside. good luck, & thx for your efforts!

@Friendly Koala tbh i am now a bit confused on that. i still have no doubt they never arrived in my other accounts' timelines anywhere near when i had sent them, indeed i never saw them at all during that day & night. but i just now used the Search box, in each of those other Friendicas, & both times was able to retrieve the post... with a HUGE disparity in the timestamps indicated for sent vs received [being just now]. it's like your server is fully able to go & manually fetch a general fediverse post if explicitly searched for, but somehow not doing this automatically by itself. given i know nothing about networks & databases, i have no idea what this actually implies.

It seems that mentioning someone in a private message does not work, but sending a direct message using the Messages menu (or the "Message" button on the contact page) does. Can you confirm that?

Unfortunately, Friendica isn't well supported by the different mobile apps that exist for the fediverse. If you use Chrome or another Chromium-based browser (e.g. Vanadium, Vivaldi), you can do the following instead:
Open friendica.au in your browser
Find the option Add page to home screen

This will install friendica.au as a web app which behaves similar to a native app.
Play around with different theme settings (under Settings -> Display) to find the one that works best for your mobile device!

Yes, ok, I seem to collect accounts all over the place.
Anyway, I hail from SE Qld, and dabble in blacksmithing, cooking, photography and other things while also working in IT. I've not played around with friendica (amazing really, since I used to have a diaspora account way way back), so I'm mainly here to poke around and see what it offers.
Our Friendica instance is less than a week old and still under development, but people are starting to find us - so welcome to our first users!
Even though things may still change a bit it should be mostly stable. So if you found us, feel free to bring in others who might be interested and help bring this place to life!
Also check out aus.social and pixelfed.au for more Australian fediverse. As you are probably aware, you can connect with anyone on these and all other fediverse instances from your friendica.au account.

Hi Lynfox, unfortunately you cannot change your username, you'll have to delete your account and register a new one.
What's more, once a username has been deleted, it cannot be registered again so you only get one attempt at the one you want.
In your case, I suggest you register your preferred user name (lynfox should be available) and make sure you can log in before deleting the old one - just to be safe.
@Friendly Koala hello. afaict, so far, none of the posts i have tried to send from this new account, actually do transmit. i've sent some test-posts to myself at some of my other instances, but they never arrived. therefore i'm currently uncertain if this enquiry-attempt to the Admin / Owner succeeded or not:

And Friendica is just not very optimzed when it comes to filters like hashtags.

if you don't mind, i'd like to keep not delete my accounts on your respective servers, because my fedi-history of the last 3.5 years is that i've tended to fedi-hop almost as m
